Spearhead Trails Receives Tourism Award

Spearhead Trails was awarded the Member of the Year at the recent annual conference of the Blue Ridge Travel Association. Spearhead Trails completes a year of successes of expanding trails, building new trails and opening trials to multi-use outdoor recreation enthusiasts.

“Our Trail Systems are open to Off Highway Vehicles, Dirt Bikes, Mountain Bikes and Hikers” said interim director Charlotte Mullins. Over 350 miles of trails are now open in the localities of St. Paul, Pocahontas, Buchanan County, and Pennington Gap. The trails in Haysi are planned to open in Spring of 2017 and will include a separate Equestrian Trails and a new ATV trail. Equestrian Trails are also planned for Scott County in the Dungannon area.

The Spearhead Trails Initiative has generated new investment for cabins, campgrounds, apartments, lodges, restaurants, and other retail businesses which benefit from the new visitors enjoying the trail systems. As a new economic development project, Spearhead Trails created a positive impact to small towns and businesses in Coalfield Region. Accepting the award was Interim Executive Charlotte Mullins and Board Members Buzz Witt, David Woodard and Kitty Barker.
