Dante Coal Heritage

Dante Coal Heritage

Trail Overview

The CF Highlands Dante property is approximately 9,752 acres located around the community of Dante, in Dickenson County. The property can be accessed from Route 63 between Saint Paul and Trammel. There are multiple access points on this large property, so be sure to study the map when making plans. Allowed activities include hunting, wildlife viewing, and biking and ATV riding on designated trails only.

The property provides a variety of habitats from early successional to mature forest. Hunting and viewing opportunities should be good for a variety of species including deer, bear turkey and small game. Sustainable forest management activities have created young forest habitats that are excellent for species like grouse. The Mountain View trail system, operated by Spearhead Trails, provides the unique opportunity for hunters to access public hunting land by ATV or UTV. A permit from Spearhead Trails is required and all trail rules must be followed. Four-wheel drive and/or high clearance vehicles are recommended for all other access roads on this property. Expect to encounter natural gas well service trucks that frequent these roads. Dogs are allowed, and must be leashed at all times unless they are being used for hunting and/or training during open seasons.
